Social Justice Ministry

      Good Friday Outdoor Way of the Cross – April 2, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. This walk begins and ends at St. Mary’s Cathedral (219 – 18 Ave SW) and takes approximately two hours. Christ shared in our human suffering, even in death itself. We will walk in solidarity with him and with all our suffering brothers and sisters who are thirsting for compassion and justice in the world today. Everyone is welcome!       Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP)

      CCODP Calgary Council Report on Haiti Earthquake Relief – As of February 12th, the deadline before which donations to the earthquake victims in Haiti were matched dollar for dollar by the Federal Government, the people of the Diocese of Calgary donated $567,538.60 to CCODP. This money will be used by CCODP and its partners, such as Caritas Haiti , for short-term relief and long-term reconstruction in this impoverished and now badly devastated country. Thank you for your generosity!

 

      Earthquake in ChileCCODP news release: CCODP has made an initial contribution of $50,000.00 to the emergency relief for the earthquake victims in Chile from the portion of its annual budget set aside for emergency relief operations. It will accept donations from Canadians for further help. Cheques can be made out and sent to your parish, or they can be made out and sent to the Diocese of Calgary earmarked ‘ Chile earthquake’.

     

      The Calgary Diocesan Council for D&P will be holding its Annual General Meeting and Mini-Retreat on Saturday, March 13 at the Catholic Pastoral Centre, 120 - 17th Avenue SW , Calgary , T2S 2T2 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Guest speakers will be Solidarity Visitor Pedro Landa, Executive Director of Caritas Tegucigalpa ( Honduras ), and D&P local animator Marie-Claude Poirier. The L'Arche Calgary Cake Walk is coming up! View cake masterpieces and enjoy a slice of premium cake!  This year is especially exciting because L'Arche Calgary and the Pastry Chef Guild of Alberta have teamed up to present the Lindt Chocolate Competition at the same time! The event is Sunday, March 14, 12 to 3:30 pm at the SAIT Heart Building and 4 Nines Cafeteria. Tickets are only $5 and parking is free. Proceeds will support L'Arche Calgary 's members with developmental disabilities.

         Effective Co-Parenting: Putting Kids First is a parent education programme that will give information about the needs of parents, children & families coping with separation and divorce.
